Choose the right layer
ChatGPT Memory, Projects, or a local Workshop?
These are not enemies. They solve different parts of the same problem: helping useful work survive longer than one conversation.
ChatGPT Memory
Best for: preferences, recurring facts, and the personal context that makes everyday conversations smoother.
Not built to be: a complete, inspectable record of every decision and source file in a serious project.
ChatGPT Projects
Best for: related conversations, project instructions, and material you want available within ChatGPT.
Not built to be: a local Windows file workbench with bounded file operations and an independent project archive.
Flight Command Workshop
Best for: local project files, visible custody, durable decisions, project continuity, and controlled AI work inside one defined boundary.
Not meant to replace: ChatGPT's intelligence, chat experience, or its useful built-in memory features.
The useful difference: source of truth
For a long project, a summary is helpful. The source files, settled decisions, and current project condition are more important. Flight Command is designed to keep those records where the user can see and manage them, then let ChatGPT retrieve the right piece when it is needed.
This makes it possible to begin a new conversation with orientation, then go back to evidence instead of asking an AI to rely on confident recollection.
You can use more than one
Use ChatGPT Memory for the personal details that make collaboration easier. Use a ChatGPT Project when the work belongs in its project space. Use Flight Command when you need your own local Workshop to remain the durable project home.
The point is not to force every task into one system. The point is to keep the important work somewhere it can be found, checked, and continued.
When a Workshop is the better fit
Choose a local Workshop when the work has real files, lasting decisions, separate projects, or a history you do not want rebuilt from memory every time a chat ends.
